Penn State Launches Partnership With Zipcar Car-Sharing Service

Penn State Transportation Services announced Thursday that it launched a partnership with Zipcar, a car-sharing company, to provide alternate transportation options for students, faculty, and staff.

Those affiliated with Penn State are offered a discounted membership rate, which includes the costs of gas, maintenance, secondary insurance, and 180 miles of driving per day.

Students 18 and older, and members of the community ages 21 and up, are able to use Zipcar’s services. Cars can be reserved for only a few hours or for multiple days.

Penn State said it piloted the partnership in hopes of working toward sustainability goals by reducing the need for personal vehicles and parking spots on campus.

Currently, four vehicles are available through Zipcar. The vehicles have designated parking spots in Lot 81 and Lot 42. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Zipcar has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols for its vehicles. Vehicles exposed to the virus are immediately removed from the fleet.
