ESPN’s College GameDay: Micah Parsons Early Favorite For Defensive Rookie Of The Year

The Micah Parsons hype train is already rolling full steam ahead, folks.

During ESPN’s pre-draft College GameDay broadcast Saturday morning, analysts David Pollack and Desmond Howard picked the new Dallas Cowboys linebacker as their early favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

“Micah Parsons is a freak show,” Pollack said. “He’s gonna make so many of those splash plays of sacking the quarterback, making interceptions, knocking people in the face. [He’s] going to a really bad defense that should be turned around.”

Howard, the former Michigan star wideout, added that Parsons can go “sideline to sideline” and plays with a mean demeanor.

“Micah Parsons is a three-down linebacker,” Howard said.

The College GameDay crew knows Parsons well, as the show made trips to Happy Valley in two games he played in. Penn State’s 2018 White Out against Ohio State and 2019 White Out against Michigan were both chosen for Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, and the rest of the crew to make the trip. During the 2019 win over the Wolverines, Parsons made 14 total tackles and was quite literally everywhere on the defensive side of the ball.

The Nittany Lion was the third defensive player taking in this year’s draft, behind South Carolina defensive back Jaycee Horn and Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II. After his dominant two years in Happy Valley, Parsons further put his athleticism on display at Penn State’s Pro Day in March by running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and putting up 19 reps on the bench press.

Though it’s only been a few days, Parsons seems to be a great fit in Dallas. He explained shortly after he was picked that his parents are Cowboys fans, and that he’d been dreaming of going to Dallas for the last year.
