New York Giants Sign Former Penn State Quarterback Tommy Stevens As Tight End

Update, August 10: Tommy Stevens’ tenure with the Giants lasted just six days, according to team sources.

The former Penn State star was waived Tuesday morning. Now, he’ll likely look elsewhere for another opportunity in the NFL.

The New York Giants announced Wednesday that they’ve signed Stevens as a tight end.

The Indianapolis native is now getting another shot to make an NFL roster. However, he joins a Giants team that has established tight ends Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph atop its depth chart.

With the Giants, Stevens joins former Nittany Lion teammates Saquon Barkley, Cam Brown, and Austin Johnson.

The New Orleans Saints originally drafted Stevens No. 240 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, they soon released Stevens after he spent half the season on the practice squad. The Saints also listed Stevens as a tight end on their roster.

The Carolina Panthers signed him days later to their practice squad. Stevens appeared in one game with the Panthers and rushed four times for 24 yards.

Stevens was a former three-star recruit in the Class of 2015. In four seasons at Penn State, Stevens threw for 304 yards with four touchdowns and only one interception. He also totaled 14 receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns between 2017 and 2018.

Stevens transferred for his final season of eligibility to Mississippi State, where he threw for 1,155 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.
