Staff Picks: The Best Non-Ice Cream Items From The Berkey Creamery

Penn State’s Berkey Creamery has been known for its ice cream for 150 years, and for good reason. Its ice cream goes hard! But the beloved joint has some other top-tier items that you should know about, too.

Ranging from other dairy products to meat to coffee, the Creamery has great options to broaden your horizons. Our staff picked some of our favorites.

Frankie Marzano: Creamery Happy Valley Blend Coffee

Even though the ice cream is by far the Creamery’s staple, there is just something about their coffee that catches my attention. Most people won’t go all the way to the Creamery just for a cup of joe, but I think it’s some of the best coffee on campus. In addition to the beans always tasting fresher than ever, the Creamery also offers multiple other blends of coffee to satisfy your caffeine needs. They also sell K-Cups and ground beans to make the coffee at home. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Charles Reinert: Chocolate Milk

It’s no secret that the Creamery has some incredible chocolate milk. It’s so perfectly put together and never fails to put a smile on my face when I buy a bottle. Every time my family comes up to visit, they always make sure to come by the Creamery and get some for the fridge back home, so I guess you could say it’s a family favorite. I’m still convinced they just sell melted chocolate ice cream in those bottles, but however they make it, I hope they continue to do so for years to come

Mackenna Yount: Cheese Curds

The cheese curds from the Creamery are incredibly underrated. They have the perfect amount of squeak and have lots of flavors that will not disappoint, perfect for a midday snack. If you want to feel ~fancy~, you can make a charcuterie of them and some of the meats the creamery also sells. Personally, my favorite flavor of cheese curds is the smoked cheddar ones, but they also sell some bangin’ jalamento curds if you like some spice.

Michael Tauriello: The Peanut Butter Chocolate Box

I got them as a gift for my mom for mother’s day in 2019. I’m not too sure if she liked them so much, but for the few that I had, I was a big fan. I’m not always a fan of peanut butter chocolate outside of Reese’s, but these really knocked it out of the park, especially when served cold. The taste was great, but the texture of the chocolate was creamy and smooth. The chocolates are a little on the expensive side, but as someone who was trying to use up my meal points quickly, this is an excellent choice.

Matt DiSanto: Lemonade

C’mon, folks. If you’ve ever had a bottle of Creamery lemonade, you know what we’re talking about here. It’s not too sweet, not too sour, and perfect for a summer day. Look, it’s lemonade, and it can be only so good. But it’s a damn good lemonade, and it’s more than worth a try.
