Onward Debates: What’s The Best ‘Late-Night’ Pizza In State College?
A debate as old as time: What’s the best place to get late-night pizza in State College? Most folks know there is always a certain point in the night (maybe after some drinks have been flowing for a few hours) when it seems like a slice of greasy pizza will solve all of your problems.
Whether you’re a Canyon stan or a College Pizza feen, the options for good late-night drunk pizza in State College are plentiful, but they can be heavily debated. Our staffers shared their personal thoughts on their go-to slices.
Sarah Sacker: College Pizza
College Pizza is hands-down the best late-night pizza I will ever have in my life. The college special is truly something special. The white pizza hits so hard, and then that garlic stick they put with it is just simply amazing. While the white pizza is my favorite, I truly don’t think you can go wrong with anything from College Pizza. It’s easily better than any of the other options in State College.
Dana Nunumacher: HiWay Pizza
HiWay Pizza is a classic part of downtown State College. It is already confirmed good daytime pizza, which means its deliciousness can only improve as the night progresses. Sure, it’s not a $1 slice from Canyon, but it is something of quality and made right before your eyes in the downtown location. From classic thin crust to rare stuffed pizzas, HiWay is my perfect late-night bite, and I wouldn’t consider going somewhere else.
Charles Reinert: Canyon Pizza
C’mon folks. Easy choice. Right next to most of your late-night locations, Canyon is easily the place to go after a long night with your friends. It’s cheap, it’s passable taste-wise, and you always make a friend in line. It’s a late-night staple for a reason. And for that, it’s the best.
Ryen Gailey: Doggie’s Pizza
This one is not even close to being a debate for me. Doggie’s Pizza is hands down the best place to get late-night pizza in State College. Oftentimes, I find myself making decisions about whether or not I’ll go out for a night purely based on the condition that me and my friends can get Doggie’s later.
The line is never too long, the pizza’s great, and if you’re lucky enough to snag some garlic knots while they’re still stocked up, your night is made. In the warmer weather when you can enjoy Doggie’s Beer Garden outside and the pizza, it’s the best combination.
The only stipulation I have here is that Wednesday nights after Gaffeoke are truly heartbreaking when you realize Doggie’s closes at 10. I’ve never experienced a worse heartbreak in my entire life.
