Lady Lions To Play Rutgers In First Round Of Big Ten Tournament

Penn State women’s basketball’s first-round matchup is set for the 2022 Big Ten Tournament.

Carolyn Kieger’s squad will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. Penn State enters the tournament as the No. 12 seed, while Rutgers is slated as the No. 13 seed.

The Lady Lions met Rutgers twice during the regular season and split the games. They won at home, but lost in Piscataway back in February. The Scarlet Knights were able to keep star point guard Makenna Marisa under twenty points during both games, which is something not many Big Ten teams have been able to achieve thus far this season.

Penn State hasn’t seen too much success in the Big Ten Tournament recently, with its last win in the tournament coming during the 2018-2019 campaign. Additionally, it hasn’t won a Big Ten championship since 1996.

Nevertheless, Kieger will aim for her first Big Ten Tournament win when the two teams face off on the Big Ten Network on Wednesday. The winner of the game will play Indiana at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 3.
