What Should Penn State Hoops’ New Uniforms Look Like?
Earlier this week, Penn State men’s basketball officially announced the team will rock a new look next season. A Penn State Athletics spokesperson said the jerseys will likely be made public in “early fall,” which leaves ample time for speculation.
Since the team has been wearing a similar uniform for quite some time, we figured it was time to pitch some new designs that would totally mix things up.
Here’s our pitch to Penn State men’s basketball on how it should redesign its jerseys:
Home: The “White Out”
Sticking with Penn State’s tradition of wearing white at home, why not switch things up and theme the uniforms to one of Penn State’s most iconic traditions? Imagine how cool it would be to see the team wearing these in the biggest home game of the year, if not every home game.
Away: Classic Blues
We created two slightly different variants of this away jersey concept, but they’re pretty similar. It’s intentionally different from the current jersey, ditching the curved “Penn State” in a serif font for a more simple, blocky look.
Alternate: The Nittany Lion
This jersey concept is unlike anything the team has done before, and it’s pretty unique even in the scope of college basketball as a whole. Penn State has one of America’s most iconic mascots, so why not pay tribute with an alternate jersey? The collar and sides feature stripes reminiscent of the Nittany Lion’s scarf, and the back features the iconic Lion Shrine itself.
Alternate: Retro Pink & Blacks
Penn State has used the old-school pink and black colors in recent years but only as a color variant of its main jersey. We think Penn State should keep using these colors for an alternate jersey, but why not mix in one of the old-school logos, too? This would lead to a completely fresh look.
Alternate: Super Old School
This one is going way back to mimic the jersey style from NBA and college teams many years ago. Is this something Penn State would wear next season? Maybe not, but the point is that it would be cool to see the team mix things up, create new concepts, and utilize old logos and school branding.
