Former Penn State Hoops Guard Izaiah Brockington Signs With New Orleans Pelicans

Former Penn State men’s basketball guard Izaiah Brockington agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the New Orleans Pelicans this past Friday.

In May 2021, Brockington transferred from Penn State to Iowa State for what ended up being his final season in college basketball. In a tweet, Brockington wrote he felt “blessed” and “grateful for the opportunity” in New Orleans

An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary NBA contract that can be converted into a two-way contract at any point before the regular season. Brockington will participate in the Pelicans’ training camp but is not guaranteed to make the team’s final NBA roster.

Brockington’s signing comes after he went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft Thursday night. He originally declared for the draft in March 2022 and was projected to go undrafted at that time.

During the 2021-2022 season, Brockington started all 35 of Iowa State’s games. Brockington was an instrumental part in the Cyclones’ Sweet Sixteen run in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, playing the most minutes on the team. Over the course of the year, Brockington averaged career highs in his per-game totals of points (16.9), rebounds (6.8), steals (1.3), and minutes (34.6).

In a March 2022 interview with Mark Schumaker, Brockington said he “had no intentions of leaving” Penn State before Chambers was “fired.” Chambers resigned in October 2020 amid a months-long internal investigation sparked by former Penn State guard Rasir Bolton’s allegations of racial insensitivity.

At Penn State, Brockington played 56 games in two seasons. Over those two years, he averaged 10.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.
