Penn State Ranked No. 15 Public University In The Country

Penn State has a longstanding reputation as a university where students can have a great social life, but its academics are also some of the best in the country.

The college ranking site Niche recognized Penn State as the 15th-best public university in America, an improvement from last year’s No. 20 ranking. Penn State also came in as the No. 64-ranked overall university.

Niche has been ranking colleges since 2002, using a formula that includes a mixture of data and user feedback. Penn State received an A+ grade, which Niche only awards to 2.5% of universities.

Penn State’s strongest individual categories were mostly social, coming in at No. 6 for Greek Life, No. 12 for party schools, and No. 9 for student life. Its highest-ranked academic programs were information technology at No. 4, criminal justice at No. 11, and communications at No. 14.

When it comes to the Big Ten, Penn State placed behind only Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and soon-to-be-member USC. Rivals Ohio State, Pitt, and Michigan State finished at No. 80, No. 90, and No. 103 in the overall rankings, respectively.
