Penn State Hoops Announces Promotional Game Schedule

Penn State men’s basketball announced its 2022-2023 promotional game schedule on Monday. The team’s season schedule includes 11 promotional contests.

Though student tickets have already been on sale, single-game tickets will go on sale at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The team’s promotional schedule is as follows:

  • November 7 vs. Winthrop: Season Opener
  • November 14 vs. Butler: Project 44 Night
  • November 25 vs. Lafayette: Toy Drive
  • December 7 vs. Michigan State: Big Ten Opener, Student T-Shirt Giveaway
  • January 8 vs. Purdue (at The Palestra): Wear White
  • January 11 vs. Indiana: Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night
  • January 21 vs. Nebraska: Coaches vs. Cancer Game, Scout Day
  • January 29 vs. Michigan: THON Game
  • February 8 vs. Wisconsin: Thank You Service Members
  • February 14 vs. Illinois: 800 Strong Night
  • March 5 vs. Maryland: Senior Day, Youth Basketball Day

Project 44 Night is among the promotions that may not be immediately obvious to some fans.

Project 44 is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save lives by raising awareness and support for bone marrow donation. This effort was founded in honor of Andrew Smith, who played under Micah Shrewsberry at Butler from 2009-2011 and later died of blood cancer in 2016.

During the 2021-2022 season, Shrewsberry’s first year at Penn State provided hope and excitement for the fanbase. The Nittany Lions finished with a record of 14-17 (Big Ten 7-13) and made a run to the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. Shrewsberry has also landed the highest-ranked recruiting class in program history.

Expectations for this season are high, as Penn State is returning three starters in Jalen Pickett, Seth Lundy, and Myles Dread. Many pundits rank the squad as a heavily underrated team entering the year.

The Nittany Lions’ season will tip off when they host the Winthrop Eagles on November 7. The matchup will take place inside the Bryce Jordan Center as the first of 16 games in the BJC this season.
