First-Generation Celebration Day Set For November 8

Members of the Penn State community are invited to join in on First-Generation Celebration Day events, which will recognize first-generation college students, individuals, and advocates on Tuesday, November 8.

More than a dozen events will be hosted virtually and in person, making the festivities accessible to commonwealth students and other community members. The Student Success Center and First-Gen Advocates have partnered to host the celebration and promote valuable opportunities and programs at Penn State.

The schedule for the day can be found below.

HUB Takeover

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., students and community members can visit the HUB to participate in activities, win prizes, and meet with representatives from the Student Success Center, First-Gen Advocates, and other student support offices. Free food will be provided, as well as other amenities such as a photo booth and a live DJ.

Virtual Moderated Panel: “First-Gen At Penn State And Beyond,” Viewing Party In 233A HUB

The panel will explore how first-generation undergraduate students can best utilize their Penn State journey while preparing for graduate school, the workplace, and more. A Zoom option is provided for those who can’t make it in person. Panelists include representatives of the College of Education, College of Information Sciences and Technology, College of the Liberal Arts, and Eberly College of Science.

In-Person Networking Session

Participants will interact in small group discussions related to the panel, have the opportunity to meet other first-generation Penn State community members, and find ways to get involved in advocating for first-generation students. The networking event will take place at 8 p.m. in HUB 233A.

Social Media Celebration

The Student Success Center will display first-generation stories on its Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as on the First-Gen Advocates Instagram account.

Additional events through Penn State Libraries, the College of Liberal Arts, and Eberly College of Science will be held throughout the week, too. For the full list of First-Generation Day events, visit the Student Success Center Website.
