Penn State Men’s Hockey’s Kevin Wall, Liam Souliere Nominated For Hobey Baker Award

A pair of Penn State men’s hockey stars are up for the most prestigious award in college hockey.

Senior forward Kevin Wall and junior goaltender Liam Souliere were nominated for the 2023 Hobey Baker award, the team announced Thursday.

The award is given to the top collegiate hockey player each season. Eighty-two players representing 43 schools are nominated by the head coaches of all Division I hockey programs with a maximum of three players per program.

This is Wall’s second straight year being nominated for the award. The senior leads the team with 12 goals and 21 points this season, coming in at third and tied for 11th in the Big Ten, respectively.

Souliere has a 2.22 goals-against average this season and a .921 save percentage. The goaltender’s 15 wins land him second in the nation and tied for the Big Ten lead. Souliere was named to the Richter Award watch list last week.

Fan voting is open and will run through March 5, and each fan is allowed one vote per day in this first phase. The second phase will begin on March 15 and run through March 26, when the list of 82 players is narrowed down to the top 10 finalists. The winner will be awarded during the 2023 Frozen Four in Tampa Bay on April 7.
