Nittany Lions In The NFL: Championship Round Recap

Championship Sunday is in the books, and Miles Sanders is heading to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona.

All of the “outside of Philly” Penn State students are fired up after the Philadelphia Eagles took down a depleted San Francisco 49ers team Sunday afternoon in a 31-7 beatdown. Meanwhile, the Chiefs were crowned AFC Champions after a 23-20 thrilling win in Kansas City.

Before we fully turn our attention toward the Super Bowl, let’s take a quick look at how the four Penn Staters fared during Championship Sunday.

Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles

The Penn State running back had an impressive afternoon and was quite impactful for the Eagles with two touchdowns. He got the Eagles on the board early on with a touchdown just over five minutes into the game.

His second score came late in the first half to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead.

Sanders finished the game with 42 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers

After one of the best performances of his postseason career last week in a win over the Dallas Cowboys, Gould had a very uneventful game this week. He didn’t attempt any field goals in the 49ers’ loss but did convert his only extra-point try.

Other Notables

  • 49ers defensive lineman Kevin Givens had a quiet game with two tackles in the blowout loss.
  • Nick Bowers is on the Bengals’ practice squad and therefore didn’t appear in the AFC Championship game.

Miles Sanders will have a chance to earn his first Super Bowl ring on February 12. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
