Homemade Penn State-Themed Cocktails For Your State Patty’s Weekend

State Patty’s Weekend is officially upon us.

To prepare for everyone’s favorite Penn State holiday, we cheffed up a few drinks to debut at your daylong.

We headed to the liquor store and purchased the cheapest possible ingredients because #college. The six cocktails below are anything but fancy, but they’re realistic…and that’s all that matters. Grab your Crown Russe and get cookin’.

Of course, you must be 21 or older to try ’em for yourself. Have fun, but drink responsibly, too.

Buzzed Bloop

Whether you love it or you despise it, the Blue Loop is a Penn State staple. Naturally, we decided to start off our list of cocktails right by paying homage to the beloved bloop. To make this blue beauty, you’ll need two shots of vodka, one part champagne, blueberry Redbull, lemonade of your choosing, and Sprite. Who said Russe couldn’t taste good? Have fun with your boozy bloop ride.

Freaky Franklin

Named after football head coach James Franklin, this drink will definitely make you feel all types of freaky. We took the classic old-fashioned cocktail that typically tastes like shit and completely changed it so that it’s bearable. Part of us feels like Franklin can be found sipping on one of these bad boys after a long day of coaching.

All you need is any bourbon of your choice, champagne, club soda, and grenadine. If you’re feeling extra freaky, feel free to garnish your drink with maraschino cherries and orange peels. And, of course, throw some ice in there. Now, you’re drinking like a pro, Super Freaky Girls!

Mount Nittany Mojito

If you haven’t taken a stroll up Mount Nittany, you’re seriously missing out. The view at the top is out of this world, and the nature you see along the way makes the painful hike well worth it. For this drink, take two shots of tequila, mix that with mojito mixer, and top it off with lime pieces, watermelon, and sour patch watermelon candies. It’s pleasing to the eye and tastes pretty damn good.

Peachy Paterno Punch

What better way to honor former head football coach Joe Paterno than with a peach-flavored cocktail? In Paterno fashion, peaches are the staple of this drink. Use any peach-flavored vodka, and mix it with any peach-flavored iced tea and Sprite. If you want a cocktail packed with even more peach flavor, head on over to the Creamery and add in a scoop or two of Peachy Paterno ice cream.

Saquon Sunrise

This cocktail takes two of Penn State’s favorite things — Saquon Barkley and a beautiful Happy Valley sunrise. Unlike a typical tequila sunrise, we shook this bad boy up Saquon style. Take two shots of any coconut rum (We chose Malibu, obviously.) Then, throw in pineapple, orange juice, and grenadine. Watch your cocktail slowly transform into a lovely sunset.

State Patty’s Spritzer

This lil number is sure to keep the good times rolling all weekend long. All you need is any vodka and champagne and mix it together with mojito mixer and a splash of pineapple orange juice. Top it off with some cut-up limes and a dash of Sprite, then call it a day. This green meanie will definitely be your best friend throughout the weekend. It’ll even match your State Patty’s day ‘fit.

Whether you’re a pro at DIY bartending or you’re sticking to cans this weekend, be sure to have a fun and safe holiday, folks!
