Sean Clifford To Wear No. 8 With Packers

Former Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford will wear No. 8 to begin his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, as announced by the team Monday.

Clifford previously wore No. 14 in all of his six seasons with the Nittany Lions.

The Packers drafted Clifford with the No. 149 pick in the fifth round Saturday. Clifford is joining a team that recently lost four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers. Expected Green Bay starter Jordan Love has only thrown 606 yards in his career.

Heading into the 2023 season, Clifford will join Trace McSorley as the only other Penn State quarterback on an NFL roster.

During his time at Penn State, Clifford solidified himself as one of the all-time great quarterbacks to go through the program. Among fellow Nittany Lions, Clifford ranks No. 1 in career passing yards (10,661), touchdown passes (86), and completions (833).

Penn State fans’ first chance to see Clifford in the green and gold threads will likely come in August, when the NFL Preseason kicks off.
