Penn State Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse To Continue Postseasons Into NCAA Tournament

Everything school.

Penn State men’s and women’s lacrosse each heard their names called on Selection Sunday for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

The men’s team locked in a No. 5 seed and will face Princeton at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 14.

Princeton completed an 8-6 regular season record and clinched the Ivy League Tournament title with a win over Yale.

Penn State will enter the tournament as Big Ten regular-season co-champions in its best season performance since 2019. It was the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament before falling to Michigan in the semifinals. Jake Morin, however, was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team on May 6.

This is Penn State’s first time playing in the NCAA tournament since 2019. Head coach Jeff Tambroni led the No. 1-seeded Nittany Lions to a Final Four appearance before losing to Yale.

On the women’s side, Miss Doherty’s group will face Stony Brook at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12.

This is the Nittany Lions’ first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018. Penn State most recently lost in the first round to Penn in overtime in its last NCAA Tournament outing.

Stony Brook was an automatic qualifier after clinching the CAA Tournament championship and engineering a 7-0 conference record.

The Nittany Lions are 0-2 against the Seawolves historically, and most recently challenged Stony Brook in April 2019. Then-No. 16-ranked Stony Brook beat Penn State 16-11 at Panzer Stadium at the tail end of the Nittany Lions’ season.

Penn State is fresh off suffering an upset in the Big Ten Tournament at the hands of Michigan. Penn State finished the conference season with a 3-3 record and locked in the fourth spot in the final Big Ten standings.
