Penn State Baseball Pitcher Daniel Ouderkirk Drafted By Seattle Mariners In 2023 MLB Draft

Daniel Ouderkirk is the newest member of the Seattle Mariners organization.

The Seattle Mariners selected former Penn State pitcher Daniel Ouderkirk in the 18th round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the No. 547 overall pick Tuesday afternoon.

The right-hander pitcher transferred from West Virginia to Penn State ahead of the 2023 campaign. In his last two seasons as a Mountaineer, Ouderkirk tallied 38 strikeouts in 25 innings of work.

During his one-year stint with Penn State, Ouderkirk went 2-4 from the mound with a 7.26 ERA through 39.2 innings. He tallied 52 strikeouts while allowing 33 walks along the way for the Nittany Lions. Despite a high ERA, Ouderkirk only allowed opposing batters to a .240 average this past season.

The Nittany Lion’s height and large frame made him a unique prospect ahead of the 2023 MLB Draft and an interesting addition to the Mariners system. Ouderkirk becomes the second Nittany Lion drafted in the 2023 MLB Draft following Jay Harry’s sixth-round selection Monday.
