Penn State Football’s Singleton, Fashanu Named To Walter Camp Player Of The Year Award Watch List

Penn State running back Nick Singleton and offensive lineman Olu Fashanu were named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award watch list Friday. The honor is given annually to the best player in college football.

The duo joins 43 other players named to the watch list ahead of the 2023 season.

Singleton, a sophomore, led Penn State with 1,061 yards and 12 touchdowns in his freshman campaign. He was also named to preseason watchlists for the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award, and Paul Hornung Award.

Fashanu, a junior, made eight starts last season and allowed zero sacks and 10 pressures through 281 pass-blocking snaps in 2022. Fashanu was expected to be an early pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but opted to remain with the Nittany Lions for an additional year. Still, the Waldorf, Maryland, native remains high in early 2024 NFL Draft projections. Fashanu was also named to the Outland Trophy Award watch list earlier this month.

Nittany Lions John Cappelletti and Larry Johnson both received the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award in 1973 and 2002, respectively, both from the running back position.

The winner of the Walter Camp Award will be named in December at the Home Depot College Football Awards.
