Penn State Women’s Soccer Defender Kate Wiesner Named NCAA Player Of The Week

Following a lethal goal in Penn State women’s soccer’s Big Ten opener Friday, defender Kate Wiesner was named the NCAA Player of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

Wiesner also earned the Big Ten’s Co-Defender of the Week distinction Tuesday.

It was a fitting start to the team’s senior day when Wiesner sent a rocket into the top-left corner to put the Nittany Lions up 1-0 in the seventh minute. Not only did she score, but Wiesner also anchored the defense that didn’t allow a goal against the Terrapins.

The goal was Wiesner’s fifth in her career.

Penn State will continue conference play at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, against Rutgers in Piscataway.
