[Photo Story] Martin Luther King Jr. Week Peace March Celebration

A celebratory reception for the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. took place in the HUB in lieu of the Peace March, which was canceled due to the low temperatures on Wednesday.

The celebratory reception was open to all students and faculty members and featured several guest speakers who captured the spirit of King’s vision.

Here’s a closer look at the event through the lens of our photographers.

Guest speakers took the stage to articulate the profound impact of King’s ideals during the Civil Rights Movement, today, and in the future.

The festivities persisted, enriched by the heartfelt contribution of a student who graced the occasion with a soulful rendition of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Seated in unity and shared purpose, students came together at the HUB’s celebratory reception. Despite the cancelation of the outdoor Peace March, the gathering reflected resilience and a collective dedication to the principles of King’s vision, fostering a warm atmosphere of solidarity and commitment to justice.

The audience applauded after the opening of the reception, capturing a deep sense of unity and appreciation.

Powerful messages “the time is always right to do what is right” and “let’s spread love, peace, and unity” were visual testaments to the shared ideals that guided the gathering toward a brighter and more compassionate future.

A guest speaker passionately articulated the profound impact of King and envisioned a future shaped by justice and equality.

As the celebratory reception ended, audience members connected while embracing the essence of unity; a warm and uplifting ending to an evening committed to remembering the legacy and impact of King.
