Love Is In The Air: Relating Love Song Lyrics To Penn State

With Valentine’s Day upon us, love songs are being heard by all, but these songs have different meanings for everyone. Some have a significant other they can relate love songs to, some are just getting over someone and feel their heart break when the lovesick jams turn on, and some are just plain Penn Staters.

With the infinite amount of meanings these songs have, their lyrics even relate to Penn State. Although you might not realize it, here are how some of the best love songs directly correlate to life in Happy Valley.

“Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift

He said, “Let’s get out of this town
Drive out of the city, away from the crowds” (get out of State College in February, please. It’s cold and gray)
I thought heaven can’t help me now (even going to the Creamery doesn’t make you happy anymore)
Nothing lasts forever (your boyfriend is older than you and is graduating soon)
But this is gonna take me down (you might end up dropping out and leaving with him)

He’s so tall and handsome as hell (is he a club lacrosse or hockey player, too?)
He’s so bad, but he does it so well (maybe, just maybe, he’s in a frat)
I can see the end as it begins (situationship: loading)
My one condition is

Say you’ll remember me
Standing in a nice dress (in 20-degree weather on Frat Row)
Staring at the sunset, babe (or gray sky, same thing)
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you’ll see me again (you’ll be back next Friday night)
Even if it’s just in your wildest dreams, ah-ah, ha
Wildest dreams, ah-ah, ha (if they even remember your existence)

“Chasin’ You” by Morgan Wallen

We used to chase that Chattanooga fray (Pollock, or East Halls if you were lucky)
Couple a kids in a Chevrolet (you were freshmen…you didn’t have cars)
Catch a little air when we cross the tracks (College Avenue so you could get to Frat Row)
Sipping on something from a paper sack (Dirty Sprites at Champs)
You hang your shirt on that maple lamp
Slipping through the moon to the river bend (finding their dorm room)
Wasn’t very long I was jumping in, jumping in
I guess I’m still doing now, what I was doing then (how could you leave?)

Chasing you, like a shot of whiskey (once again, a Dirty Sprite)
Burning going down, burning going down
Chasing you, like those goodbye taillights (they just got off the White Loop and left for the night)
Heading west to anywhere out of this nowhere town (your dorm because it’s February and you can’t leave State College)

Chasing that freedom, chasing that feeling that got gone too soon (now you want more than just a situationship)
Chasing that you and me, I only see in my rearview
Hell, I’m laying every night holding someone new (seriously…somebody else?)
Still chasing you, still chasing you

“Fine By Me” by Andy Grammer

You’re not the type, type of girl to remain with the guy, with the guy (it’s the boy from your freshman year floor)
Too shy, too afraid to say he’ll give his heart to you forever (or simply scared to talk to you)
I’m not the boy that will fall to his knees with his hands clasped tight (again, he is too nervous to even go up to you)
Begging, begging you, please, to stay with him for worse or for better (he finally settled into Penn State and wants a relationship now)

But I’m staring at you now, there’s no one else around (you made it to your Nittany Apartment)
I’m thinking you’re the girl for me (he finally made a move!)

I’m just saying it’s fine by me if you never leave (he wants to spend the rest of college together)
And we can live like this forever, it’s fine by me (it’s a Penn State love story. We Are!)

“Forever” by Noah Kahan

I won’t be alone for the rest of my life (you found a girl!)
I’ll build a boat for when the river gets high (you’ll build a scooter for when the sidewalk gets crowded)
And I’ll meet a girl in the heat of July (push it back a month. You don’t come back to Penn State until August)
And I’ll tell her so she knows
That I’m broke, but I’m real rich in my head (you spent my whole meal plan. Good thing you have LionCash)
That I broke a bone that never healed in my hand (someone got in your way and you fell off the scooter)
So, when I hold her close
I might loosen my grip, but I won’t ever let her go (you might let go when you go home for Thanksgiving break)
I won’t ever let her go (OK fine, maybe you can make it a week without her, but winter break is pushing it)

“Die For You” by The Weeknd

Even though we’re goin’ through it (you haven’t seen your situationship in a whole three days)
And it makes you feel alone (you both feel alone)
Just know that I would die for you (things escalated quickly)
Baby, I would die for you, yeah (you said it twice, you must really mean it)
The distance and the time between us (one of you lives in Nittany Apartments, the other on Frat Row)
It’ll never change my mind ’cause (you’re willing to take the bus downtown)
Baby, I would die for you
Baby, I would die for you, yeah
