Penn State To Host Campus Pride Month Events Throughout April

Penn State’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity will host a series of events throughout April to celebrate Campus Pride Month.

Check out the following slated events to see the ways to get involved and celebrate Campus Pride Month.

Wednesday, April 3: HUB Takeover

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the HUB will be taken over by student groups, partners, and more. There will be resources, a DJ, drag bingo, and other activities throughout the afternoon.

Tuesday, April 9: Pride March & Reception

At noon, a march will take place from the HUB to the Old Main steps as the community aims to come together to celebrate the pride of the LGBTQ+ population at Penn State and beyond.

Friday, April 12: Lavender Graduation

Lavender Graduation is an annual celebration of the accomplishments and contributions of LGBTQ+ students at Penn State. The ceremony includes scholarships, awards, and speeches and is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in Heritage Hall.

Wednesday, April 17: Hayden Kristal Comedy Show

Hayden Kristal will grace the HUB’s Flex Theater at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, to put on a comedy show. Kristal is a bisexual and queer activist and stand-up comic. They have been a semifinalist on “America’s Got Talent” and “Stand Up NBC.”

Thursday, April 18: State Theatre Panel Discussion

The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity is partnering with the Borough of State College, Community Conferencing, and Centre LGBT+ to put on the second event in its 2024 Community Conversations Series. Hosted at the State Theatre at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, the topic will be “Health and Wellness in the LGBT+ Community: The Importance of Gender-Affirming Care” and include a panel discussion and restorative circle.

Saturday, April 20: Super Gay 5K

Starting at the HUB at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, participants are encouraged to run or walk a 3.1-mile route across campus to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ population in the Super Gay 5K. Registration is required.

Thursday, April 25: Penn State Pride Prom: Decadent Decades

Formerly known as the Gayla, Penn State’s Pride Prom serves as a second chance for anyone who felt uncomfortable or unable to be their authentic selves during their high school proms. This year’s theme is “Decadent Decades” and will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, in Alumni Hall.
