Neeli Bendapudi Named To City & State Pennsylvania’s ‘Power 100’ List

Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi was named to “City & State Pennsylvania’s” Power 100 earlier this week, which recognizes powerful Pennsylvanians of different fields who impact the Keystone State community.

“Having steered Penn State through rocky years for higher education, President Neeli Bendapudi recently got a package of long-term financial incentives from the board – a vote of confidence in her pragmatic style,” Hilary Danailova of City & State wrote. “The India-born marketing scholar has focused her administration’s efforts on greater transparency, a data-informed approach to diversity and steady leadership in a time of shrinking budgets. She’s also overseen soaring research expenditures at the university – $1.2 billion last year, thanks to record federal funding.”

Bendapudi, who came in at No. 56 on the list, was the only current Penn State faculty member to receive the honor. Bendapudi was elected as Penn State’s president in December 2021 and recently received an increase in compensation after it was approved by the Board of Trustees.

Former Penn State professor and current director of the Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office Matthew Knittel checked in at No. 81 on the list.
