Penn State Hoops’ Jameel Brown Transfers To Temple
Jameel Brown is heading back to Philly.
Brown will suit up for the Owls next season after announcing his commitment to Temple on Instagram on Friday. Brown was the final member of the 2022 recruiting class to enter the transfer portal on March 22.
The Philadelphia native was recruited to Purdue by former assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry, and when Shrewsberry left for the head coaching job at Penn State, Brown followed suit. After Brown’s freshman season, Shrewsberry packed his bags to Notre Dame.
Last spring, Brown entered the transfer portal but eventually chose to return to Happy Valley and commit to head coach Mike Rhoades with classmates Kanye Clary and Demetrius Lilley.
As a freshman, Brown saw the court in sparse moments, appearing in 14 games and totaling 12 points. This past year, the sophomore broke out as a three-point shooter, connecting on 29 threes in 10.1 minutes per game.
During his sophomore campaign, Brown showed very little outside of his ability to shoot the deep ball and scored only eight two-point field goals all season while averaging 0.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 0.5 steals per game. The Philly native averaged four points per game this past season. Out of high school, the Philadelphia product was rated as the sixth-best prospect in the state.
Brown started his second season in Happy Valley with a bang, dropping 20 points in the Nittany Lions’ win over Delaware State. Brown also helped Penn State to victory over Indiana at Assembly Hall for the first time since 2014 with four made three-pointers and 14 points.
