Student Committee For Defense & Solidarity To Host Anti-Turning Point USA Protest

The Penn State Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity (SCDS) will hold a protest against Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA tour stop at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, on HUB Lawn.

SCDS also organized a petition asking Penn State administration to deny Kirk from bringing his “You’re Being Brainwashed Tour” to campus.

“We demand that the Penn State Administration deny Turning Point USA permission to platform Charlie Kirk with a tabling event on September 19th, 2024,” the organization wrote. “We demand that substantial policy changes be made to relevant university policies in order to prevent far-right extremist organizers like Kirk from coming to our campus to be platformed in public spaces.”

Other student organizations were also invited by the committee to help with the protest or flyering for the event.

Turning Point USA is an organization “dedicated to identifying, organizing, and empowering young people to promote the principles of free markets and limited government.”

Kirk is a political figure who founded Turning Point USA to advocate for conservative politics on high school and college campuses. Kirk has been on Penn State’s campus before, including in 2019 alongside Donald Trump Jr. for an on-campus lecture.
