Mackenzie Gress Named Big Ten Goalkeeper Of The Week

Penn State women’s soccer goalkeeper Mackenzie Gress was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week after leading the Nittany Lions to back-to-back wins against Maryland and Minnesota. This marked her first time winning the award.

Although both games were only her third and fourth starts of the season, Gress made save after save to shutout Maryland and keep the Nittany Lions in the game against Minnesota after going down in the first half. She registered six saves against the Golden Gophers as the Nittany Lions earned a much-needed win.

Gress now has 13 saves on the season, along with a 3-0-1 record. In those four games, she has only allowed three goals, which translates to a 0.78 goals-against average. Gress also currently holds a 0.813 save percentage through her limited starts.

Gress and the Nittany Lions next take the field on Thursday, October 17, at No. 10 UCLA for a pivotal Big Ten matchup. The match will kick off at 10:30 p.m.
