Drew Allar Drafted No. 76 Overall To Pittsburgh Steelers

Former Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 76 overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. He became the highest-drafted Penn State quarterback since Christian Hackenberg, who was drafted No. 51 overall to the New York Jets in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Medina, Ohio, native started 35 games over four years in Happy Valley, completing 633 of his 1,002 pass attempts for a total of 7,402 yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Allar added 732 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

After a strong 2024-25 season in which he led the Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance and earned All-Big Ten honorable mention, Allar was reportedly viewed as a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he chose to return to Penn State for his senior year.

Unfortunately, the program’s championship aspirations came to a screeching halt after losing three straight to Oregon, UCLA, and the infamous Northwestern game, in which Allar broke his ankle in the fourth quarter. He was ruled out for the rest of the season while James Franklin was fired.

The combination of the ankle injury, as well as a clear regression in passing performance on film, bumped Allar down from a top-tier prospect in 2025 to a late day two prospect in 2026.

Nonetheless, the 6’5″, 235-pound quarterback has all the physical tools to succeed at the next level; he just needs to take a step as a processor and improve his anticipation to allow him to progress through downfield reads consistently.

To see where the rest of Allar’s fellow Nittany Lions go, folks can tune into the remainder of the 2026 NFL Draft. Day three beigins at noon on Saturday, April 25, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All seven rounds will be televised on ABC, ESPN, and the NFL Network.
