Stephen Nedoroscik Drops To Sixth Place In Week Six Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Another Tuesday has come and gone, folks. You know what that means. Another week of Pommel Horse Guy on “Dancing with the Stars.”
Last week, Stephen Nedoroscik and his partner Rylee Arnold remained in third place for the fifth week in a row, after scoring 33 points. The pair performed an Argentine Tango to “Seven Nation Army” for “Dedication Night,” dedicating the performance to men’s gymnastics.
This week, the pair returned for “Disney Night” with only eight couples remaining. Nedoroscik and Arnold chose to perform a Charleston to “A Star Is Born” from the hit, animated Disney classic “Hercules.”
Last Friday, Arnold turned to TikTok to reveal their theme for “Disney Night,” posting a video of the two of them to a sound from “Hercules.”
For “Disney Night,” the couples did their dances and were put into teams. After performing dances with their couples, they split into two teams to compete for the judge’s scores. The couple at the top of the leaderboard after the first round will win immunity from next week’s dance-off and bonus points.
Nedoroscik and Arnold, known as Arnold-Pommel by fans, were the first couple to hit the stage.
“Hercules is a strong character. He’s a goofy guy, super strong, likes to flex. So I think that buying into this character is going to be easier for me, but I’m a little too pale, right?” Nedoroscik joked in the rehearsal video.
Arnold took Nedoroscik to get his first spray tan before the episode, solving that issue and posting it on her socials.
“The Charleston is super quick movement,” Arnold explained. “There’s lots of accents and sharp movement. But you can also do lifts, you can do cool tricks, which is really helpful to Steve.”
“Me being here, past the halfway point on “Dancing with the Stars,” is unbelievable. I really do think there’s a chance I make it to the finale, and I’m going to try my absolute hardest to get there. I want to bring those Hercules vibes, I want the crowd to feel the energy I pour into this dance. Because Hercules, you got nothing on me,” said Nedoroscik.
Nedoroscik started the dance on a podium, standing in first place in his true Hercules armor and flexing before Arnold ran out, dressed as Megara, to meet him.
Nedoroscik jumped down and did a little jig while he lifted Arnold above his head, with some assistance, before the pair hit the floor and brought the energy with their Charleston. They spun around and kicked out before he twirled Arnold, rejoining to jump kick forward and send off a flurry of kicks.
The pair somersaulted over each other before leaping around the stage and spinning each other. Nedoroscik took another moment to kiss his bicep after landing his spin, running back towards Arnold for the pair to strut down the stage, arms swinging in the air. They both flexed before rejoining, with spinning kicks before spinning apart, clapping to the music as they moved backward towards the side of the stage.
To finish the dance, the pair cartwheeled each other to the judge’s table where Nedoroscik jumped on top in front of Derek Hough, hitting a flexing pose while Arnold laid belong while the song ended and confetti exploded.
“What a fantastic way to start the night, you danced like a hero!” Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed. “But a little bit off-time hero. I do see all of the growth by you there is a new calmness, but you just got a little ahead of the music, and it stayed with you the whole time.”
“She’s absolutely right, but let me say in the Olympics, when you took off those glasses, a star was absolutely born in that moment. I love the athleticism, I love your performances, you always bring so much joy. But let’s work on that timing a bit, a great way to start the show,” Hough said.
“The demigod attacked!” shared Bruno Tonioli. “You were attacking the dance! But hold on a second, I appreciate that. I appreciate passion, determination, but you have to work on timing.”
Nedoroscik and Arnold made their way up to host Julianne Hough, who asked Nedoroscik about his first-ever spray tan to start.
“I mean, it feels great. I look just like Hercules, I hope. I’m loving it,” said Nedoroscik.
Julianne Hough then asked the gymnast a more serious question, asking for his thoughts about the judge’s timing comments.
“I’ve been working on my timing a whole lot, I’m a little disappointed I didn’t perform it the way I’ve been training it. But I’ll get back to it and just really grind it, I want to do it right,” Nedoroscik said.
Arnold-Pommel received an eight from all three judges, scoring 24 points out of 30. They were tied for the individual dances in fifth place with Dwight Howard, Jenn Tran, and Phaedra Parks.
Moving onto the group portion of the night, each team received a score out of 30 from the judges that were added to their individual scores. But this time, the stars didn’t spend the whole dance with their partners.
Ilona Maher and Howard were the stars with the lowest scores last week, acting as captains and choosing the members for their teams.
Howard’s team featured Nedoroscik, Danny Amendola, and Parks with their assigned song, “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” from “The Lion King.” On the other side was Team Goofs featuring Maher, Joey Graziadei, Chandler Kinney, and Tran.
Howard ran into team rehearsals, roaring and ready to go, sharing that he chose his team because they are “strong, strong, and legendary athletes” before revealing the team name: Roar.
The pros were there for rehearsal to help their partners, sharing that the dance would focus on each star fighting each other for the crown, to be the king. The pros will still be a part of the group dance, and have time to shine in the dance for a quick solo for each couple.
“In our couples section, we’re all doing something special to dazzle the judges,” Nedoroscik said. “We love Dwight and we know he’s the lowest on the leaderboard right now, so we have to save him.”
Team Roar hit the stage first, with each star passing around the crown before reuniting with their partners and starting the first couple solo. Nedoroscik and Arnold stayed on the outskirts while other pairs were featured, but Arnold-Pommel always brought the vibes and backstopped together to sway in the background of Park’s moment.
The pros then went to the sides while the stars marched into a line, leaning from side to side before the others moved away to let Nedoroscik have his moment to shine. Nedoroscik performed a quick pommel horse routine, although simply on the floor this time, to many cheers from the audience. He posed on the floor after his routine while Parks joined him and Amendola stood above him for Howard to run and leapfrog over them all.
Finally, it was Arnold-Pommel’s time to shine as a pair. They ran out on the floor, hitting front handsprings before crawling on the floor. Nedoroscik jumped over Arnold as she rolled over, landing in a pushup and quickly jumping back to his feet as they joined hands and kicked their feet out, doing a quick foxtrot like they did in weeks prior.
They ended with Arnold in front of Nedoroscik as she bent down and he kicked his foot out around her head and the other couples joined behind them, doing a little cha-cha before Howard picked up Nedoroscik and spun him around like Simba himself (and like the shakers at Beaver Stadium). Nedoroscik was placed down and slid onto his knees, throwing his arms out in celebration as all the dancers hit their final pose and confetti hit the floor.
Tonioli shared the great fun of the dance before criticizing the group’s timing and togetherness. Inaba went next, highlighting the camaraderie and different styles of dances each couple brought. She mentioned the issue of timing as well, as well as mentioning Park’s habit to look back, and brought many boos from the crowd.
Hough ended the feedback by agreeing with Tonioli and Inaba, commenting on the joy he got out of the energy and camaraderie brought by Team Roar.
“It was so amazing,” team captain Howard said of the dance. “Every person that you see today, we’ve become closer just in a week, working together, being together, just spending time. And I really love these guys and it’s been great.”
Team Roar received an eight from all three judges, bringing their score to 24 out of 30 on the group dance to be added to each individual member. With those extra 24 points, Nedoroscik had 48 points out of 60 for the night.
Team Goofs performed a dance to “I2I” from “A Goofy Movie,” receiving a nine from each judge to hit 27 points out of 30. With the added points, Arnold-Pommel sat tied for sixth place with Howard and Parks at 48 points.
The hosts read out the couples safe from judges’ scores and fans’ votes before getting down to the bottom three. Nedoroscik and Arnold made it in the bottom three, standing on stage, shaking in apprehension.
Parks and her partner were eliminated this week, to sighs of relief from Arnold-Pommel as they survived another week.
Check back next week to see how Nedoroscik and Arnold fare in “Halloween Night” and a dance-off, folks.
