[Photo Story] Trump Rally Brings Supporters & Protestors To State College

On Saturday, October 26, State College became a focal point of political expression as former President Donald Trump’s rally drew supporters and critics to Penn State’s campus. By mid-morning, clusters of pro-Trump attendees filled the streets outside of Beaver Stadium lining up to get into the afternoon rally scheduled for 4 p.m.

In anticipation of the rally, two Penn State student groups, the People’s Defense Front and the Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity, joined with other in-state coalitions to march through downtown State College and to the Bryce Jordan Center to protest the rally.

Our photographers were on the scene to capture all the moments throughout the day.

Supporters were lined up as early as 9 a.m. in anticipation of the event.

As supporters filed into the Bryce Jordan Center and others waited outside, a group of protestors were gathering downtown at College Avenue and Garner Street making their voices heard.

Local organizations put together the protest but included several members from outside of the area who mobilized to come and protest.

The group began to march around 2:45 p.m. through the streets of State College toward the Bryce Jordan Center.

State College police officers were on the scene to block the streets to ensure the protest remained peaceful and safe.

The group marched down the roadway from Beaver Avenue, past the Meridian, up to University Drive, and across the overpass.

As the group approached BJC, tensions flared as protestors and supporters clashed.

After protesting outside of the BJC to the crowd of Trump supporters still waiting in line, with some near incidents, the group processed down Curtin Road without any skirmishes.

The protestors’ march concluded at the Millenium Science Building where they disbanded peacefully and without incident.
