Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Tuesday. Allar was one of 16 finalists and one of four Big Ten quarterbacks recognized.

The second-year starter has accumulated 2,006 yards for 13 touchdowns with five interceptions across nine games this season. Allar has also completed 149 of 212 pass attempts for a completion percentage of 70.3%.

Allar was joined by Big Ten quarterbacks recognized as a semifinalist, alongside Ohio State’s Will Howard, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, and Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke.

The junior is also in contention for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, a title given to the nation’s top upperclassmen quarterback, as a top-25 finalist.

Drew Allar and the Nittany Lions will continue Big Ten play at Purdue at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. CBS will broadcast the game.
