New York Mets Sign Former Penn State Baseball Pitcher Justin Hagenman

Former Penn State RHP Justin Hagenman has been signed by the New York Mets, the team announced on Monday. Hagenman’s new contract is a one-year major league deal.

Hagenman pitched at Penn State for three seasons, from 2015 to 2018. In his 42 appearances for the Nittany Lions, Hagenman’s record was 10-21 with an ERA of 4.64. In his freshman season at Penn State, he was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman team after leading the Nittany Lions in wins.

He was selected No. 704 overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft. After playing for a number of teams in the Dogders’ minor league system between 2018-2023, he was traded alongside Nick Robertson to the Boston Red Sox organization for Kiké Hernández and cash considerations.

This past season, Hagenman pitched for the Worcester Red Sox, the Boston Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate minor league team. Over 91.2 innings in the 2024 season, Hagenman pitched a 4.91 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
