Penn State Board Of Trustees Committee Approves Contract Amendment For James Franklin
Penn State’s Board of Trustees Committee on Equity and Human Resources approved a contract amendment for James Franklin at an off-cycle session on Friday morning.
According to a Penn State Athletics spokesperson, the meeting amended Franklin’s incentives for reaching the College Football Playoff.
“The Committee on Equity and Human Resources voted unanimously to revise the performance incentives section in coach James Franklin’s contract. The change accounts for the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff (CFP) format, which beginning this year includes one additional game compared to the previous four-team single-elimination CFP format from 2014 to 2023,” the spokesperson wrote.
The committee voted unanimously on the matter. Exact details on the contract were not made available.
Penn State is expected to reach its first College Football Playoff this season, and a win against Maryland on Saturday would almost guarantee a playoff berth and first-round home game at Beaver Stadium. This year’s path to the national championship includes an extra two rounds for teams playing in the first round of the playoffs.
Penn State on SI’s Mark Wogenrich first reported the board meeting.
