Schedule A Game During THON Weekend: An Open Letter To Penn State Hoops

Dear Penn State men’s basketball,

THON Weekend deserves a Penn State game. For 46 hours, Penn State students, alumni, and families all come together in the Bryce Jordan Center to raise money and spread awareness for pediatric cancer. Many of those hours are dull, to say the least. There are no performers on stage and nothing going on in the arena, which makes time go by slower.

The program not only has the chance to give the THON Weekend crowd something to cheer about, but it would probably be the loudest game ever held at the Bryce Jordan Center. The last time Penn State men’s basketball sold out the Bryce Jordan Center was back in February 2020, but the last time THON sold out the same space was about seven hours ago just ahead of the Pep Rally.

This would be an amazing experience for both the players and the fans. Over 15,000 people in a packed Bryce Jordan Center right after the pep rally with a White Out crowd has the potential to become an awesome tradition at Penn State. Our fans are known to be some of the loudest in college football, and I guarantee you we can bring the same energy here.

Even though it’s late in the season, Penn State could use a hype-up game. This year it doesn’t necessarily matter, but a Penn State team going into the Big Ten Tournament, and in other years possibly March Madness, could definitely feed off the energy of this crowd and use it as momentum going into March. Just imagine this place after a Nick Kern Jr. alley-oop or Zach Hicks corner three.

I’m just asking for a test run, nothing more. Give us a THON 2026 basketball game, and see how it turns out. What is the worst that can happen? It will take up some dead time and give the people in the City of THON something to look forward to all weekend.
