Report: Former Penn State Running Back Miles Sanders Signs With Dallas Cowboys

Former Penn State running back Miles Sanders has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The details of his contract were not released.

Sanders was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this week and will now play for his third NFL team. He played for the Nittany Lions from 2016 to 2018. He was the backup to Saquon Barkley before being promoted to starter after Barkley declared for the 2018 NFL Draft. During his time at Penn State, he finished with a total of 1,649 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.

After that, he declared for the 2019 NFL Draft and was selected in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for four seasons before joining the Carolina Panthers for the 2023 season.

With the Panthers, he struggled to reestablish his form from the Eagles as he recorded 637 rushing yards and four touchdowns during his two seasons there before losing the starting role to Chuba Hubbard.

Sanders will compete against Javonte Williams for the starting role for a Cowboys team looking to make it back to the playoffs after missing them last year for the first time since 2020. He will also reunite with Micah Parsons whom he played with during the 2018 season.
