Penn State Wrestling Breaks Its Own National Championship Team Score Record

After clinching its 12th national championship in 14 years, Penn State wrestling capped off its incredible season by beating its own team scoring record for the NCAA Championships.

The final score of 177 ascended over last season’s record of 172.5 where Penn State had four national champions, including six All-Americans. The record was broken with a 4-3 win from Carter Starocci, a win that officially made the Nittany Lion the first and only five-time national champion.

In second place, Nebraska finished with 117. After session V, Penn State led the Cornhuskers 169-109.

Two Nittany Lions took home individual titles en route to the record-breaking performance featuring Carter Starocci and Mitchell Mesenbrink. All 10 Penn Staters earned All-American status.
