Former Penn State Hoops Forward Evan Mahaffey Transfers To Akron

Former Penn State men’s basketball player Evan Mahaffey committed to Akron out of the transfer portal, he announced Friday morning.

Mahaffey played at Penn State in the 2022-23 season before spending two years at Ohio State. While at Penn State, Mahaffey scored 2.8 points along with 1.7 rebounds per game.

As a Buckeye, Mahaffey went for 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest as a sophomore in 36 appearances, 35 of which he started in.

This past season, Akron went 28-7 and won the Mid-American Conference with a 17-1 record. As a No. 13 seed, the Zips fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mahaffey, a 6’6″ forward, will join Akron with one year of eligibility remaining.
