Report: Penn State Football Cornerback Jon Mitchell Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State football cornerback Jon Mitchell has entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Mitchell played in six games in 2024 as a true freshman. He recorded two tackles against Kent State in September and notched five assisted tackles against Purdue and Maryland as well. Mitchell made his mark on special teams, taking home the coaching staff’s Special Teams Player of the Game for his performance in Penn State’s College Football Playoff first-round win over SMU in December.

Mitchell came out of high school as the No. 13 cornerback recruit in the Class of 2024, per 247Sports. By the same metric, Mitchell was the No. 116 overall prospect.

Mitchell becomes the third Nittany Lion to hit the transfer portal this spring after offensive lineman JB Nelson and Ta’Mere Robinson announced their intention to transfer.
