[Photo Story] Celebrate Earth Day With A Trip Through The Seasons At Penn State

Happy Earth Day, folks!
Earth Day originated in 1970 after United States Senator Gaylord Nelson witnessed the aftermath of the oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, in January 1969. Nelson announced the idea for a teach-in on college campuses to the national media and persuaded Pete McCloskey, a conservation-minded congressman, to serve as his co-chair, and the rest is history.
Penn State is lucky enough, depending on who you ask, to experience every season. From the sweltering heat of the lingering summer to the below-freezing temperature you must hike through to get to class, there’s nothing quite like Penn State’s campus through the seasons.
Summer
Proof of life in Happy Valley during the summer comes when Arts Fest appears downtown.

There’s nothing quite like walking through the stifling heat on the first day back on campus.

All the animals are out soaking in the summer heat.

Fall
Fall finally starts to roll in with cooler weather and falling leaves, the prettiest time of year.

Falling leaves with a side of sunsets, please.

Winter
Then comes the dreaded below-freezing temperatures winter brings. But with that, also comes some stunning snow.

Spring
Finally, spring brings warmth back to Happy Valley.

And with warmth comes the beautiful colors of the blooming flowers.

Happy Earth Day, Happy Valley!
