CATA Announces Service Disruptions After Storm

Following Tuesday evening’s severe storm, the Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is reporting multiple service disruptions, detours, and damage to facilities across the State College area.

All CATA fixed-route buses remain operational, but several lines are running on detours due to storm damage. Impacted routes include the N, R, AC, CC, HU, and H. Riders are encouraged to check CATA’s rider alerts page for the most up-to-date information on route changes.

The storm also knocked out power at CATA’s Customer Service Center, located at 108 E. Beaver Ave. Although the center remains without electricity, customer service is still available by phone at (814) 238-2282 for scheduling trips through CATAGO!, CATARIDE, the Bellefonte/Benner B-Line, and Willowbank/Courthouse services. Delays should be expected throughout the region.

Several bus shelters were also damaged in the storm, and CATA is currently conducting a system-wide assessment of bus stops to identify and address storm-related hazards. Passengers are urged to avoid damaged shelters and stay clear of any downed wires or other unsafe conditions.

Despite the chaos, CATA drivers stepped up in a big way. During the storm, one driver helped relay emergency information to firefighters when a local family’s home caught fire and they couldn’t reach 911. The bus operator communicated the location of the fire directly to first responders, allowing them to act quickly. CATA also continued running through the storm to help get riders home safely.

CATA is assisting in community recovery efforts by helping refuel vehicles for the Centre County Solid Waste Authority and will continue to monitor road conditions throughout the day. CATA will be posting updates to their website.
