Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Adds Abby Rehfuss To Coaching Staff

Penn State women’s lacrosse head coach Kayla Treanor has announced Abby Rehfuss as an associate head coach for the Nittany Lions. Rehfuss will take charge of the offensive unit.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Penn State women’s lacrosse program,” said Rehfuss. “Thank you to Kayla and Athletic Director Pat Kraft for this amazing opportunity. I’m looking forward to helping develop not only top-tier athletes, but strong, confident leaders on and off the field. I can’t wait to get started and be part of something truly special here in Happy Valley.”

Rehfuss joins Happy Valley from Colgate, where she served a yearlong stint as offensive coordinator. The Raiders were one of the top teams in the conference on the ball under her command, turning the ball over less than 14 times per game. Colgate’s offense featured five players with 30 or more points this past season.

She also coached the draw unit, where one of her players finished ninth nationally in draw controls and set a program record with 163. The Raiders’ draw unit was ranked top 25 in controls per game and 26th nationally in percentage in the team’s first season above .500 since 2018.

Rehfuss spent time with Treanor at Syracuse as the offensive coordinator, working with the draw unit again. She helped develop Kate Mashewske into the NCAA’s Division I leader with 234 draw controls in a season and led the team to its first ACC Regular Season Championship and final four appearance.

Prior to Syracuse, Rehfuss was a head coach for five seasons at Siena, winning one MAAC Regular Season Championship with three appearances. She was named the 2021 MAAC Coach of the Year and holds the program record for both wins in a season and all-time wins.

Rehfuss played women’s lacrosse at Loyola Maryland, serving as a two-time captain, Tewaaraton Watch List nominee, and Big East Conference Champion.

“Abby is one of the brightest minds in our game,” said Treanor. “Her ability to build relationships, develop athletes, and elevate programs is unmatched. We are incredibly lucky to have her joining our team.”
