Penn State Women’s Volleyball Drops To No. 5 In AVCA Poll

Penn State women’s volleyball dropped to No. 5 in the latest AVCA Poll released Monday afternoon.

The drop in the rankings comes after the Nittany Lions were upset by then-No. 13 Arizona State on Sunday in their first match of the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase despite winning their first two matches against ranked Creighton and Kansas in the AVCA First Serve event.

The defending champions started the season ranked No. 2 in the AVCA Preseason Poll, receiving 21 first-place votes, while No. 1 Nebraska received 40 votes, and remained as No. 1 in the latest rankings.

Outside of Penn State and Nebraska, the Big Ten was also represented by No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 14 Minnesota, No. 17 Purdue, No. 19 UCLA, and No. 22 USC.

The Nittany Lions will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they take on No. 24 TCU at 5 p.m. on Labor Day. This will be their last match away from Rec Hall before it takes on No. 4 Kentucky at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 5, where the defending champions will raise their national title banner.
