Acacia & Sigma Pi Join State College IFC

The State College Interfraternity Council (SCIFC) has expanded to five members, announcing on Monday that Acacia and Sigma Pi have joined.

The fraternities join founding members Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon, which launched the SCIFC in March. Its mission is “to cultivate a stronger sense of brotherhood among its members and to make a meaningful impact on the State College community through dedicated service initiatives.”

Acacia was suspended indefinitely by Penn State in May, following allegations of misconduct and hazing. Penn State investigated reports of members needing medical care after forced consumption, acts of servitude, and prolonged activities without rest.

Sigma Pi was also suspended indefinitely following misconduct and hazing in July. Penn State received reports of alleged abuse, forced consumption, physical activity, and servitude.

Both fraternities chose to withdraw recognition from the university instead of working towards remediation over the summer.

Although not recognized or promoted by Penn State, all five chapters continue to be recognized and in good standing with their respective headquarters organizations. The SCIFC is monitored and protected by its risk partner, Standing Stone Consulting, and all chapters follow local and national bylaws, according to a press release.
