[Photo Story] Penn State vs. Iowa

The start of a new era.

The Nittany Lions made their way to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes in a sold-out Kinnick Stadium for Iowa’s annual stripe-out game. This also marks the first game for Penn State with interim head coach Terry Smith and, making his first start, Ethan Grunkemeyer at quarterback.

As always, our photographer was there to capture all the action.

Even though rain was projected, just a few clouds in the sky remained before fans made their way into the stadium.

As the Nittany Lions made their way into the stadium, they wore shirts with the word IF in bolded letters.

Players made their way to the field for warm-ups.

Ah, those road whites.

Bring ’em out.

Iowa started with the ball, but in just 3 plays, Zakee Wheatley caught an interception on Iowa’s 35-yard line.

Making his first start at quarterback, Grunkemeyer and the offense took the field.

However, it didn’t take long for Kaytron Allen to put the first points on the board for the Nittany Lions. BOOM.

At the end of the first quarter, we waved to the kids in the children’s hospital across the street for the greatest tradition in college sports.

After a blocked field goal by the Nittany Lions, combined with strong defense throughout the first half, Penn State was up 14-10 going into halftime.

Even though we were all the way in Iowa, Penn Staters were scattered throughout the stadium.

Making their way down the field, the offense was not letting up. After another touchdown by Allen and an extra point from Ryan Barker, the Nittany Lions were up 21-10 in the 3rd quarter.

Our head coach.

It was a fight till the finish with back-to-back field goals by both teams early in the 4th. The Nittany Lions still held on to their lead 24-19.

Hi Herky.

But just like that, another week, another loss. The Nittany Lions fell to the Hawkeyes 25-24.

Penn State will go into its final bye week of the season with its next game on November 1 at Ohio State.
