Penn State Wrestling Signs Three Recruits On National Signing Day

Penn State wrestling is reloading once again, folks.

The Nittany Lions signed three recruits to their already stacked roster from the class of 2026 on Wednesday. Elijah Brown, Sam Herring, and Jayden James are the newest Penn State wrestlers to be added to a program that has done nothing short of dominate its competition for over a decade.

Brown had initially committed to Pitt but decommitted in October before signing with Penn State on Wednesday. Although listed at 215 pounds on FloWrestling, he is projected to be a heavyweight in college.

Brown wrestled at Belle Vernon Area High School, where he posted a 127-19 record and won a state championship. FloWrestling has Brown as the No. 5-ranked 190-pounder and the No. 77 overall in his class.

Herring hails from Bishop McCort High School in Pennsylvania. Herring is listed at 138 pounds and has tallied a record of 89-17 after three seasons in high school. Last year, Herring recorded 14 technical falls and 19 pins on his way to a 50-5 record as a junior.

The Pennsylvania native is listed as the No. 21 recruit in the nation and the No. 4-ranked wrestler at his weight class in the class of 2026, according to FloWrestling’s big board. He has been committed to the Nittany Lions since last November.

The highlight of the current 2026 signees is Jayden James. The New Jersey native ranks No. 3 overall recruit in the country on FloWrestling and is the very best at 165 pounds. Wrestling out of Delbarton High School, James was a perfect 43-0 last season. The defending state champion has placed in the top three each year, securing third at 113 pounds and then second at 138 pounds before taking the crown at 150 pounds as a junior.

James committed to Virginia Tech in September of 2024 before flipping to the Nittany Lions this past March.
