Report: Former Penn State Football Offensive Lineman Juice Scruggs Traded To Detroit Lions

Former Penn State offensive lineman Juice Scruggs was traded to the Detroit Lions on Monday in a deal that involves star running back David Montgomery heading to the Houston Texans, per Tom Pelissero.

Scruggs left Penn State following the 2022 season to pursue a career in the National Football League. He was drafted in the 2nd round, 62nd overall by the Houston Texans.

During the first three seasons of his professional career, Scruggs made 20 starts in 37 appearances at both center and guard. In his postseason debut in 2023, he saw the field for every offensive snap in the team’s blowout of the Cleveland Browns.

Over the past two seasons, Houston has had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Despite improvement in 2025, its inability to protect CJ Stroud ultimately led to the team’s downfall in the postseason.

Scruggs will look for a fresh start in Detroit on a unit that appears to be on a downward trajectory. He will head to the Lions, along with a 4th and 7th-rounder, in exchange for Montgomery.
