Penn State Faculty Voted In Favor To Unionize

Penn State faculty voted “yes” in favor of unionizing on Thursday, according to the Penn State Faculty Alliance (PSFA) website.
The union effort succeeded with 2,510 faculty members voting in favor of the unionization with SEIU Local 668. The union includes faculty members across all ranks and departments, including tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure-track, adjunct, full-time, and part-time faculty across Penn State’s campuses.
Faculty organizers first filed to form a union on December 9, 2025. The filing was the largest union campaign in Pennsylvania’s public sector in decades. Ballots were mailed on April 1 and were due to the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board by May 6.
“I am very excited about the results of the election. As faculty, we all came together to achieve a collective voice in Penn State’s decision-making. Now, we can move forward as educators to create a better work environment for all faculty and support the best learning environment for our students,” Marissa Baez, adjunct lecturer in arts and architecture at Penn State University Park and PSFA organizing committee member, said in the PSFA announcement.
