Former Penn State football running back and current Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley was the victim of a home burglary attempt early Saturday morning, according to the Tredyffrin Township Police Department. Barkley and his family were reported to be safe and unharmed following the incident.

The event occurred shortly after 5 a.m., Capt. Tyler Moyer told 6ABC Action News. Police responded to a burglary-in-progress call, but the alleged suspects had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

The current investigation remains ongoing, with the Chester County district attorney’s office asking for information from any witnesses or individuals with tips on the situation.

“We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m.,” the DA office said. “If you saw anything unusual or have video that may assist investigators, please contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department immediately.”

The police department released a photo of a white SUV it believes is connected to the case. The car appears to be a GMC Yukon.

Barkley and family were present inside the home at the time of the break-in, and one suspect was able to gain entry to the residence, per NBC News. It’s unclear whether any damage was done to Barkley’s property or personal items.

The break-in comes amid a recent stretch that has seen several professional athletes be targets of similar occurrences. Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, and Patrick Mahomes have all been victims of burglaries in the past few years. While it’s unclear if the Barkley incident is related, it is currently a point under investigation.

“We will look at all angles of this because we know, obviously, it’s been all over the news in the past few years about different professional athletes’ homes getting burglarized,” Moyer told WCAU-TV Philadelphia.
