Court Records Show More Than $123,500 In Alleged Drug Payments To Penn State Cocaine Ring Ringleader

The former Penn State student and Sigma Chi fraternity member alleged to have led a large-scale cocaine trafficking ring out of two off-campus fraternity houses received more than $123,500 in drug payments, according to Onward State’s review of the grand jury presentment.

The absurd figure was paid to Agostino Abbatiello, who was described as “the largest dealer of cocaine for Penn State University students” by a witness.

Abbatiello was paid through five specifically priced cocaine purchases totaling $73,500, as well as more than $50,000 that another witness claimed he paid Abbatiello for drugs.

One witness said that “Abbatiello would boast about how much money he was making from selling cocaine,”

According to the grand jury presentment, Thomas Robinson, a former member of Delta Upsilon, was one of the primary buyers of drugs from Abbatiello, making six large transactions from January 2024 to September 2024.

Robinson’s first purchases of cocaine from Abbatiello were for between six and eight ounces. His third transaction on March 19, 2024, involved 500 grams of cocaine and $18,000.

Robinson’s next two large purchases were both for 1 kilogram of cocaine, or 1,000 grams. In both instances, Robinson gave Abbatiello $22,000 for the drugs, according to the grand jury presentment.

Lars Zeepvat, Abbatiello’s close friend and a fellow Sigma Chi brother, also claimed Robinson bought 500 grams from Abbatiello in Spring 2024 for around $20,000, though it’s unclear if that was the same as Robinson’s $18,000 purchase on March 19, 2024.

Robinson was put in contact with Abbatiello through his Delta Upsilon fraternity brother, Mohammed Huraibi, who had been buying drugs from the alleged ringleader since fall 2023.

Huraibi said he set up the first purchase over Snapchat. He bought 100 grams of cocaine from Abbatiello for $4,000. Huraibi said he paid in cash and planned to repackage the cocaine to make a profit.

Allegedly, Huraibi made his second purchase in conjunction with Robinson, getting 250 grams of cocaine from Abbatiello for around $7,500. Huraibi said he and Robinson split the cost equally.

Andrew Acker also allegedly bought cocaine from Abbatiello, starting in late fall 2023 and spring 2024, according to the grand jury presentment.

Acker said that after Abbatiello graduated, at least one time they would meet halfway between State College, Pennsylvania, and New York to exchange $10,000 in cash for between 300 and 500 grams of cocaine.

Acker believes that in total he paid Abbatiello over $50,000 for drugs.

Abbatiello sourced his cocaine from both Philadelphia and New York. Zeepvat introduced Abbatiello to his Philadelphia source, and the two started out by purchasing between 3.5 and 7 ounces of cocaine for themselves and Sigma Chi.

Once the Philadelphia source stopped responding to Abbatiello, though, he started buying from someone in his hometown in New York around Spring 2023. According to the grand jury presentment, this is when the purchases started getting larger.

Abbatiello was arraigned and denied bail on Tuesday by District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker. Gillette-Walker cited “flight risk and serious allegations of drug use/sales=danger to public” as reasons for denying bail, per the court docket.

Abbatiello, Robinson, Zeepvat, and Huraibi have all been charged with felony corrupt organizations, among other felony and misdemeanor counts.
