Penn State Field Hockey Goalkeeper Aby Deverka Named NFHCA Defensive Player Of The Week

Penn State field hockey goalkeeper Aby Derverka was named the NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week, the team announced Wednesday.

Deverka helped the Nittany Lions to two wins over Delaware and Villanova, registering 13 saves in 14 opportunities. So far this season, her goals-against average is 1.22, which is tied for third in the Big Ten. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in addition to the NFCHA honor.

Derverka is the first player in program history to earn an NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week honor and is the first Nittany Lion to win an NFCHA weekly honor since Phia Gladieux in 2023.

Deverka and Penn State will return to action at home against Princeton on Sunday, September 13.
