The trial involving the alleged leader of the Penn State fraternity cocaine ring is pushing for his case to go as early as December.

Agostino Abbatiello — a former member of Sigma Chi at Penn State — has requested a “speedy trial,” according to court documents filed on September 16.

The former Penn State student asked that the case remain on track for December 2026.

“The continued pendency of these serious criminal charges has imposed substantial stress and hardship upon the Defendant and his family, circumstances that have been further aggravated by the extensive and, at times, excessive public and media attention surrounding this prosecution,” the document reads.

Abbatiello and his attorney, Philip M. Masorti, asked for the trial to be “at the earliest reasonable opportunity.” Abbatiello also agreed to jury selection on December 7, 2026, as long as the prosecutors produce timely and complete discovery.

The document continues that Abbatiello “objects in advance” to any request by the prosecutors to delay or impede the case from being tried during the December 2026 term.

Abbatiello was one of 13 former and current Penn State students charged in connection with a drug trafficking ring that allegedly operated out of the off-campus houses of Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi.

As the alleged ringleader of the operation, Abbatiello received more than $123,500 in drug payments, according to the grand jury presentment.

Abbatiello currently faces 11 felony charges, including two first-degree and one third-degree, relating to multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy.

The charges moved forward after a preliminary hearing in a Centre County courthouse on September 2.

The court granted Abbatiello bail at $250,000 during the hearing, which he posted a few hours later.
